Overview

Take a trip through the birth and evolution of America. First, delve into Philadelphia's history and its pivotal role in the founding of this nation, where independence was born! Then, head to New York and learn how this city, home to entertainment and business, is also key to historical events as the first ever capital of the United States. 

Travel through American history, from the signing of the Declaration of Independence all the way through to the September 11 attacks. 

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight from UK to Philadelphia. 

    Arrive and settle into your accommodation. 

    Head straight into the action with a visit to one of the oldest centres of science education and development in the country, the Franklin Institute. Named in honour of America's first citizen scientist, this centre provides plenty for your group to explore. 

    Next, take a run up the Rocky steps and grab a photo with the bronze statue at the top! 

  2. Day 2

    Take a step back in time today by exploring the Independence National Historical Park. With the Liberty Bell Centre, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, National Constitution Centre, the Benjamin Franklin Museum and the Independence Visitor Centre to explore in this park, your group will have plenty to visit and learn!

    Get a taste of Philadelphian cuisine at Reading Terminal Market. As one of America's oldest and largest indoor markets, get ready to shop and eat your way through over 80 vendors! 

    Next, enjoy a guided tour of Philadelphia, including the Free Quaker Meeting House, Betsy Ross House, Elfreth's Alley and Christ Church. 

  3. Day 3

    Take a step back in time at the Museum of the American Revolution this morning. Uncover compelling stories about the diverse people and complex events that sparked America's ongoing experiment in liberty, equality and self-government. 

    Travel to New York City.

    Optional Extra: Enjoy a Broadway Show! It is possible to link this show to both your trip and curriculum, for example, Hamilton has clear links to the founding of America. 

  4. Day 4

    Today is going to be a day to remember! First, take a trip to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Given to the people of the United States by France, it has become an iconic symbol of freedom and democracy. 

    Next, take a guided tour of Wall Street and learn about the Great Crash. Known as Black Thursday, the New York Stock Exchange experienced a massive sell-off that triggered the Wall Street Crash of 1929. This crash led to the Great Depression which had a profound impact on the city's economy. 

    Finish your day with a night-time trip up the Empire State Building, taking in the spectacular New York skyline from a different angle! 

  5. Day 5

    Start your day by visiting the 9/11 Memorial, the site of the attack that caused the greatest paradigm shift of this century in both American and global politics. 

    Next, visit the Top of the Rock for spectacular views of both New York and the Empire State Building. 

    Finish your trip by shopping at Macy's in Times Square, the perfect spot to pick up some souvenirs. 

    Overnight flight back to the UK. 

  6. Day 6

    Arrive back in the UK.
