Overview

Amsterdam is an incredibly engaging destination for Holocaust studies, offering a fascinating insight into Jewish life in occupied Europe.

Our selection of visits bring some incredible stories of resistance to life. 

Anne Frank is one of Amsterdam's most well-known residents.  Your students can take part in an educational workshop at The Anne Frank House and will learn about Anne Frank, the Second World War and the persecution of the Jews.

Amsterdam wasn't the only place in the Netherlands to feel the effects of the Holocaust. Just an hour south of are the remains of Kamp Vught, the one of the only concentration camps outside of Germany to be controlled by the SS. Today, Kamp Vught stands as a national monument listing the names of the people who died there.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight to Amsterdam and transfer to your accommodation. 

    Take in the city's main sights with a guided canal cruise. As you sit back and relax, you will get front-row views of beautiful 17th century houses, charming bridges and old merchant houses. Plus, you can see modern architecture lining the banks, providing a stunning contrast! 

  2. Day 2

    Spend the morning visiting the Anne Frank House, the museum acts as an exhibition space to highlight all forms of persecution and discrimination.  Before a guided tour of the house, students will get to take part in an educational workshop specifically tailored to their age and requirements.

    In the afternoon, take a guided tour of Camp Vught (Herzogenbusch concentration camp), the only official SS concentration camp in occupied North-West Europe.

    In the evening, spend some free time in Jordaan, a neighbourhood dotted with independent art galleries and antiques shops.

  3. Day 3

    Discover Amsterdam’s tumultuous history during the Second World War with a guided walking tour.  See the Jewish Quarter, the Portuguese Synagogue, the Jewish Historical Museum and more.

    Afternoon/evening flight back to the UK.

Our groups visiting Amsterdam tend to stay at A&O Amsterdam Zuidoost or the MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West.  Our accommodation is usually 2* or youth hostel standard and provides a perfect base for enjoying your tour.   All accommodation we use is audited, and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts.
