Overview

Barcelona has long inspired artists, including the likes of Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, whose works are in bold display in the city's myriad museums.

You, like some of them, will be transported to the Middle Ages by taking a stroll through the shadowy lanes of the Gothic Quarter, past tranquil plazas and soaring 14th-century cathedrals.  In other parts of town bloom the sculptural masterpieces of Modernisme, a mix of ingenious and whimsical creations by Gaudí and his Catalan architectural contemporaries, for which this city is so well known.

There’s so much to do in Barcelona, especially on an art trip!  A Gaudí-themed day is a must as you take in his many works dotted around the city, and we also particularly recommend visiting Museu Picasso and Fundació Joan Miró.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Barcelona.

    Transfer to your accommodation and check-in

    Take a stroll along La Rambla, the city's most vibrant artery, and explore Barcelona's atmospheric Barri Gòtic, where you can hunt for treasures in its stylish boutiques.

  2. Day 2

    In the morning, enjoy a guided ‘Gaudí & Modernisme’ walking tour around Passeig de Gràcia and Eixample, including Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Casa Amatller.

    In the afternoon, get a taste of Spanish gastronomy at La Boquería market, Barcelona’s most famous food market.

    Spend the rest of the afternoon among some of the region’s most famous artists at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Spain's largest collection of Catalan art.

     

  3. Day 3

    Begin the day being inspired at Gaudí’s incredible Parc Güell – this is a great place to get the sketch books out and exercise those artistic bones!

    In the afternoon explore the district Eixample, a showcase for Modernista architecture including Gaudí's famously unfinished masterpiece La Sagrada Família. 

    Afterwards, you can look for treasures in the Els Encants Vells flea market OR continue the Gaudí theme with a Gaudí-inspired Ceramics Workshop.

    Optional evening activity: learn about the history of Spain's most famous gastronomic tradition while enjoying some delicious food with an outstanding Tapas Tour.

  4. Day 4

    On your last morning in Barcelona, visit the Fundació Joan Miró OR the Museu Picasso to get up close and personal with works by these world-renowned artists.

    Take in the sea air at the Barceloneta & Port Vell, an area of the city that underwent huge transformation for the 1992 Olympics. Once a small fishing harbour, it is now home to Barcelona’s most famous beach along with plenty of restaurants, cafés and small souvenir boutiques.

    Transfer to the airport and flight back to the UK.

We use safe and secure accommodation especially suited to schools. Our accommodation is usually 2*/3* or youth hostel standard and provides a perfect base for enjoying your tour. All accommodation we use is audited, and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts. Sometimes our groups choose to be based in Salou (with immediate access to Port Aventura) or in one of the seaside resorts on Costa Brava.
