Overview

Bilbao's iconic Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry, is seen by many Bilbaínos as a symbol of their city's modern identity: its inauguration in 1997 established Bilbao as a new and exciting centre of art in Europe. 

The Guggenheim may be Bilbao's most well-known landmark, but it is by no means the city's only attraction for visitors interested in art and architecture.  Some of the works housed by the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum date from the 13th century, and the museum's collection is regarded as the most important collection of Basque art in the world.

The wider Basque Country is also rich in artistic heritage making the region an exciting new destination for an Art and Design tour. 

 

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Bilbao and transfer to your accommodation. 

    Enjoy some free time exploring the Old Town with the option to add on a Pintxos tour if you'd like! 

  2. Day 2

    Self-guided walking tour of Bilbao’s Old Quarter to discover the city’s most famous architecture, with opportunities for sketching!

    Visit to the famous Guggenheim Museum, an architecturally striking building that houses an important and diverse collection of contemporary art.

  3. Day 3

    Visit to the Guernica Peace Museum and a Guided Tour of the town to learn more about the story behind one of Pablo Picasso’s most iconic works.

    Visit to the Santimamiñe Caves to view prehistoric cave paintings, followed by a walk in the Painted Forest of Oma.

    Visit to the coastal village of Lekeitio, with a beautiful beach and quaint streets which are full of colour and plenty of hidden gems. 

  4. Day 4

    Take a trip up to Mount Artxanda on the funicular for some amazing views across the city and beyond.  

    Visit to the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, home to Basque and European art from the Middle Ages. 

    Enjoy a river cruise exploring the main architectural sights of Bilbao. 

    Flight home to the UK.
