Overview

You don’t need to go abroad to see world-class Roman sites! This fascinating civilisation left its mark on Britain too, and nowhere is that more visible today than in the Cotswolds. The ancient cities of Corinium and Aquae Sulis (modern-day Cirencester and Bath) are two of the best places in the UK to get a feel for life in Roman Britain.

Along with brilliant museums such as the Corinium Museum and the Roman Baths, the surrounding countryside is dotted with archaeological sites, including the luxurious Chedworth Roman Villa.

Our suggested itinerary is designed to bring the study of Latin & Classical Civilisations to life through interactive workshops, and your students are sure to enjoy walking in the footsteps of the Romans.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Travel to Cirencester and arrive at the Corinium Museum.  Take part in a hands-on workshop designed to complement the study of Latin & Classical Civilisations. You’ll translate real tombstone inscriptions to discover who lived and died in Roman Corinium.

    In the afternoon, see how wealthy Romans lived at Chedworth Roman Villa, complete with flushing toilets, mosaics, and underfloor heating.

    Travel to Bath where you’ll spend the night.

    Optional extra: let us know if you’d like to go bowling this evening!

  2. Day 2

    Visit the Roman Baths, one of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world!  Take part in a ‘Welcome to Aquae Sulis’ workshop, before exploring the bath houses and temple and even tasting the famous spa water!

    Enjoy some free time in Bath’s grand and historic city centre and ascend the steps of Bath Abbey’s bell tower for a fantastic panoramic view of the city.

    Travel back to school in the afternoon.
