Amsterdam Design and Technology

Overview

Amsterdam’s eccentric personality is no more evident than in its fusion of historical masterpieces and contemporary design, which is sure to inspire your Design and Technology students. 

Unearth old design traditions at the Royal Delft Experience, the last remaining earthenware factory from the 17th century.  Contrast this with a visit to one of Amsterdam's many modern art museums, such as the Stedelijk Museum of design.

There is also the opportunity to learn about multimedia design at the Foam Fotografiemuseum, which offers a range of photography exhibitions from past to present.

Step outside and stroll through the quaint neighbourhoods of Jordaan and De 9 Straatjes, which feature a number of quirky design shops that are sure to inspire your students.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight from the UK to Amsterdam and transfer to accommodation.

    Visit the Foam Fotografiemuseum and its display of international photography exhibitions, which showcase a range of genres and mediums.  There is also the opportunity to take part in a photography workshop if you'd like. 

    A trip to Amsterdam wouldn't be complete without a canal cruise, which provides a stunning backdrop to the city’s historical centre.

  2. Day 2

    Start your day with a tour of the Street Art Museum Amsterdam's outdoor collection with an expert guide.

    Then visit the Stedelijk Museum, which is dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design.

    Afterwards, enjoy some leisure time in Jordaan, a neighbourhood dotted with independent art galleries and antiques shops.

  3. Day 3

    In the morning, discover the complete history and production process of Royal Delftware at the Royal Delft Experience.

    Later on, wander through Amsterdam's famous green haven, Vondelpark.

    Pick up some last-minute souvenirs from the quirky design shops in De 9 Straatjes ("The Nine Streets"), the city's most picturesque micro-neighbourhood.

    Afternoon/evening flight back to the UK.

Accommodation

Our groups visiting Amsterdam tend to stay at A&O Amsterdam Zuidoost or the MEININGER Hotel Amsterdam City West.  Our accommodation is usually 2* or youth hostel standard and provides a perfect base for enjoying your tour.   All accommodation we use is audited, and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts.
