Discover Lisbon & Porto

Overview

A trip that combines Lisbon and Porto is the perfect way to really experience Portuguese culture.  The capital has lots of exciting visits to discover, as well as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, fantastic food and charming cobblestoned streets.  A trip to Portugal wouldn’t be complete without sampling the famous Pasteis de Nata, and you will even have the chance to have a go at making them yourself.

After spending a couple of days in Lisbon, head up the coast to the lovely city of Porto where you’ll find Portuguese culture and architecture at its finest.  Visiting these two cities will make a unique school trip that won’t be forgotten in a hurry!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight from the UK to Lisbon and transfer to your accommodation.

    Get your bearings and learn more about Lisbon’s fascinating history with a guided walking tour of the city.

    Witness Lisbon’s iconic trams passing through the cobbled streets whilst enjoying some free time in the charming Bairro Alto.  You will also be able to see lots of vibrant street art.

  2. Day 2

    Start your day with a fantastic Cooking Class and learn how to make the famous Portuguese pastry, a Pastéis de Nata and enjoy the fruits of your labour!

    Then visit the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, an international institution that is dedicated to innovation and creative practices that will help shape the future.

    In the afternoon, head to the Jardim Zoológico and find the Sumatran Tigers in the dense vegetation of the Rainforest and observe the behaviour of lions, giraffes and elephants in the dry African Savannah.

    In the evening, head to the top of the Elevador de Santa Justa for some great views over the city! 

  3. Day 3

    In the morning, enjoy a visit to the magnificent Oceanário de Lisboa, Europe’s largest indoor aquarium.  The main aquarium holds 5 million litres of seawater and four marine habitats create the illusion of a single ocean.

    Transfer to Porto.  Arrive and settle into accommodation.

    Enjoy a lovely Cruise on the River Douro and learn about the importance of the river to the city, while seeing many of its famous bridges and landmarks.

  4. Day 4

    In the morning, visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, the oldest public museum in Portugal.  It is also housed in the country’s oldest palace, the Carrancas Palace.  After a visit to this fascinating museum, you can then take a stroll through its peaceful gardens.

    Then head to the Mercado de Bolhão for some lunch – it’s one of the liveliest and most popular markets in Porto.

    Then spend some time exploring the Baixa district of Porto.  This downtown area is where you’ll find most of the major landmarks and many examples of Porto’s tilework which decorates many of the buildings.

    Afterwards climb to the top of the Clerigos Tower – after 200 steps you’ll get a great view over the city and river.

  5. Day 5

    On your final morning, visit the impressive Palácio da Bolsa, the Stock Exchange Palace.  Although no longer used as a stock exchange, the palace remains the headquarters of Porto’s Commercial Association and is used for large events and official receptions.

    Transfer to airport for flight back to UK.
