Diverse Belfast!

Overview

Just across the Irish Sea, Belfast is a refreshing alternative destination for a school trip.  The capital of Northern Ireland is rich in history and culture and has plenty of activities for your students to get stuck into.

Admire the beauty of Belfast from above with a walk up Cave Hill Country Park, immerse yourself in Irish mythology at the Giant’s Causeway, and interact with robots at the award-winning W5.  Of course, no visit to Belfast would be complete without paying a visit to Titanic Belfast!

With so much going on in Belfast, this itinerary can easily be altered to the age and requirements of your students.  You might also consider extending your trip, take a look at our other Northern Ireland and even our Republic of Ireland itineraries for some inspiration!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Depart school and take the ferry to Belfast.

    Begin your trip with a visit to Titanic Belfast and discover the story of the Titanic, from her birth in Belfast to her discovery on the sea bed.

    Afterwards, go for a stroll up Cave Hill Country Park and enjoy the panoramic views of Belfast. Get a close-up view of Cave Hill’s famous profile which is visible from almost everywhere in Belfast.

    Arrive and settle into your accommodation.

  2. Day 2

    In the morning, travel to the awe-inspiring Giant’s Causeway.  The Giant's Causeway, renowned for its striking columns of layered basalt, is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland.  The Giant’s Causeway is steeped in legend… some say it was carved from the coast by the mighty giant, Finn McCool.  Look out for clues of his existence, including The Giant’s Boot and Wishing Chair!

    Then return to Belfast and visit W5, a science and discovery centre.  You can launch a rocket or fly a plane, sneak up on a butterfly or come face-to-face with Darth Vader!  Anything goes!  There’s also an opportunity for your students to take part in a science workshop specially tailored to your students’ age.

    Wind down in the evening with a game of bowling at the Odyssey Arena.

  3. Day 3

    Start your final day with a visit to Belfast Zoo, home to more than 1,000 animals and 150 species.  Many are under threat in their natural habitats.  Highlights include the giraffe and elephant enclosures, bird park and rainforest house.

    Enjoy some leisure time in Belfast City Centre before your journey home.

    Ferry back to the UK and return to school.

For our Belfast trips, our schools tend to stay at either the ETAP Hotel Belfast or Belfast International Youth Hostel.  We use safe and secure accommodation especially suited to schools. Our accommodation is usually 2* or youth hostel standard and provides a perfect base for enjoying your tour. All accommodation we use is audited, and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts.
