Historical Boston

Overview

Boston is a fascinating city and has many visits to help you understand its historical significance.  This itinerary gives you the best of Boston and its surrounding area. Walk the Freedom Trail to explore the significant sites of the city’s history such as the Massachusetts State House.

You’ll also have the chance to visit Plymouth, the site of the first Pilgrim settlement and Salem, site of the 1692 witch trials.  As well as its historical significance, Boston is also home to some world-class sports teams that you could go and see: watch the Red Sox playing baseball or the Boston Bruins playing ice hockey.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Boston.

    Arrive and settle into your accommodation.

    Head up the Prudential Tower, Skywalk Observatory to enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of Greater Boston and beyond.

  2. Day 2

    Start your day by heading to Boston Common, the oldest city park in the United States, dating back to 1634.

    Starting from the Common, walk the Freedom Trail, a red brick path that will lead you to a number of significant historic locations including the Massachusetts State House and the Old South Meeting House.

    Then meander along Boston’s Harborwalk, which stretches for 40 miles of public access at the water’s edge.

    Visit the New England Aquarium, the centrepiece of the waterfront.  It is teeming with sea creatures of all sizes, shapes and colour.

    In the evening, head to a sports game: enjoy watching a game of basketball or ice hockey, 2 of America's most iconic sports!

  3. Day 3

    Take a day trip across the bay to Salem - home to America's famous witch trials of 1692!

    Experience one of the spookiest towns in America with a guided walking tour around its most significant sights.

    Afterwards, visit the Salem Witch Museum where visitors can experience the drama of the trials though thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting and a stirring narration as they are witness to the web of lies and intrigue of the Witch Hunt!

    Then visit the world-renowned Harvard University.  Go on a guided tour to learn about the history of this great establishment.

  4. Day 4

    On your final day visit Plymouth, the site of the first Pilgrim settlement, founded in 1620.

    Visit the Plimoth Patuxet Museums, learning about the Indigenous and colonial people who lived and worked on these shores in the 17th century. 

    Go on a Duck Boat Tour to enjoy one last chance to get great views of the city from the Charles River and take in breath-taking views of the Boston and Cambridge skylines.

    Overnight flight back to the UK.

  5. Day 5

    Arrive in the UK.
