Overview

Immerse yourself in Iceland’s vibrant art scene and explore the natural wonders that have inspired its unique architectural styles.  Our Art & Design tour showcases not only iconic and thought-provoking works like the Sun Voyager, but also the striking beauty of the natural landscape.

Your students will have opportunities to explore the colourful, muralled streets of downtown Reykjavik and to capture the dramatic South Shore landscape on camera.  Reykjavik also has an extensive collection of art galleries that celebrate Icelandic contemporary artists.  If you’re lucky, you might even see nature’s light show, the Northern Lights!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight from the UK to Reykjavik (Keflavik Airport).

    Board your coach to Reykjavik and get settled into your accommodation.

    Follow a self-guided tour through downtown Reykjavik and the harbour district to find the best examples of wall art!  A ground-breaking mural initiative in 2015 put Reykjavik on the global street art map.

    Optional evening activity: Discover the awe-inspiring natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights with a local guide (from October to mid-April).

  2. Day 2

    Morning visit to the Reykjavík Art Museum, a collection of 3 buildings housing many of the country’s most distinguished works.

    After lunch, take a guided tour of Harpa concert hall to learn how forces of nature like the Northern Lights inspired the unique design and the amazing glass facade.

    End the day with a stroll along the Sculpture & Shore Walk to the world-famous Sun Voyager installation.

  3. Day 3

    South Shore Daytrip
    Today you’ll travel to Iceland’s South Shore with a local guide – it’s a must-see destination for photographers from around the world!

    In the morning you’ll visit two of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the cascade!

    Next up is Sólheimajökull Glacier, with icy crevasses, deep blue colours, and rugged scenery that make it a dramatic subject for a photo.

    Finally, walk along the ethereal black sand at Reynisfjara Beach and admire the other-worldly basalt formations.

  4. Day 4

    Spend your last morning at the National Gallery of Iceland, home to 19th and 20th century Icelandic art.

    Stop by at Hallgrímskirkja, one of Iceland’s most distinctive buildings, and take a photo to commemorate your trip!

    Finally, climb up to the viewing deck of Perlan, a striking domed building, for spectacular views over Reykjavik.

    Board your coach and catch your flight back to the UK.
