Lake District Geography

Overview

The Lake District, now a World Heritage Site, is one of the most beautiful, scenic areas of Britain.  With its striking lakes and stunning scenery, the Lake District is the perfect destination for Geography students!

As well as natural beauty to explore, the region is home to many other exciting activities and visits.  Choose from a number of action-packed activities at Brockhole Visitor Centre and have a chance to take a boat trip on the wonderful Lake Windermere – the largest lake in England!  With a trip on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, you’ll get wonderful views of the lake and river.

You will also have the chance to visit the lovely estate of Holker Hall which is busy and bustling with life.  This is a really exciting and diverse itinerary with lots of great activities packed in!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Depart School and travel to the Lake District.

    Start your trip with a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter where you can explore the enchanting world that Beatrix Potter created in her books.  There will be a chance to meet all her best-loved characters including Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-winkle!

    Then head to the Hill Top Beatrix Potter House which helped inspire many of her tales.  Inspirations came from Beatrix Potter’s surroundings, the rooms in the house and their content.

    Arrive and settle into your accommodation.

  2. Day 2

    Start your day by heading to Brockhole Visitor Centre, where you can enjoy a stroll through beautiful, historic gardens and head to the lakeshore.  Then choose from a wide range of exciting activities such as kayaking, mini golf and orienteering!

    Afterwards, take a Boat Trip on Lake Windermere to get stunning views from the water on England’s longest lake.

    In the afternoon, take a trip on a steam train on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.  You will have a pleasant journey through the Leven Valley, giving you lovely lake and river views.

  3. Day 3

    Begin the day with a visit to the Lakes Aquarium which is home to hundreds of amazing creatures.  It showcases local wildlife from around the Lake District such as pike and pipefish and more exotic species from around the world, including piranhas and pufferfish!

    Then head to Holker Hall & Gardens, a busy and diverse estate covering around 17,000 acres of beautiful countryside.  The parkland around the hall is grazed by a herd of fallow deer.

    Return to School.
