Normandy Music Tour

Overview

The fascinating history of the Normandy coast makes it a wonderfully rich destination for choir tours.  Choirs have plenty of options for concert locations, including performances at the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mont St-Michel, and the ancient Abbaye-aux-Hommes.

Complement your performances with diverse cultural and historical visits, such as the Bayeux Tapestry and D-Day landing beaches!  Have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of WW2 soldiers and gain an insight into the lives of soldiers in the area. Normandy is enormously rich in history and culture so there is plenty to see and do outside of concerts, making a truly memorable trip!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Depart school and travel to Normandy.

    Explore the lovely medieval town of Bayeux, followed by a visit to the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry, the huge tapestry depicting the Norman conquest of 1066.

    Kick off your concert tour with a performance at the spectacular Notre Dame cathedral in Bayeux!  The original home of the Bayeux tapestry, the Cathedral was consecrated by William the Conqueror in 1077.

  2. Day 2

    Take a daytrip to the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mont Saint-Michel!  Your choir will have the opportunity to give a concert at the island’s beautiful 11th-century Abbey.

  3. Day 3

    Get a taste of French culture with a visit to a model village! Students will be able to bake their own bread in a traditional oven, and have a go at churning butter.

    Then head over to the beautiful port town of Honfleur for a visit to Les Maisons Satie, an interactive musical tribute to local, eccentric composer Erik Satie.

    Deliver a performance in St Catherine’s Church, the largest surviving wooden church in France. The acoustics in this unusual church are sure to make for a memorable performance.

  4. Day 4

    Spend the morning at the excellent Mémorial de Caen and learn about the history of WW2 and its dramatic conclusion on the Normandy region.  Then walk in the footsteps of the soldiers of WW2 with a guided tour of the D-Day landing beaches.

    Head back into Caen for an evening performance at the spectacular Abbaye-aux-Hommes.  This ancient church was built by William the Conqueror, and was chosen by him as his final resting-place.

  5. Day 5

    Travel back to the UK.
