Overview

Paris has an illustrious artistic pedigree: artists such as Renoir, Rodin, Picasso, Monet, Manet, Dalí and Van Gogh are but a few of the masters who have lived and worked here over the years.  Its architecture is a thing of beauty too, full of classic buildings and iconic landmarks.  The cityscape is not static however: there are some stunning modern and contemporary icons too.  All in all, Paris is one of the best Art & Design destinations for a school trip.

In addition to the world-famous museums such as the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay and the Centre Pompidou, there are scores of smaller museums housing collections displaying art from every imaginable genre.  We’ve suggested some of these in our itinerary below but if you’d like some more options, please ask us!

Also unmissable are the graceful wrought-iron spire of the Eiffel Tower, the broad span of the Arc de Triomphe, the gargoyled Notre-Dame Cathedral and artistic Montmartre.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Depart school in the morning and travel to France.

    Go for a cruise on the river Seine: the Bateaux Mouches will give you spectacular views of this iconic city from a different angle.

  2. Day 2

    Spend the morning in the artistic quarter of Montmartre for some wonderful sketching opportunities and the chance to mingle with local artists in Place de Tertre.  Then visit the Sacré Coeur – perched on the top of the hill, the beautiful white building is the highest point in the city.

    Afterwards, visit the Musée d’Orsay, the home of Impressionist works by Monet, Cézanne and Degas.  Housed in a former railway station, the museum holds paintings, sculptures, furniture and photography.

    Continue your artistic journey at the Centre Pompidou, holding the largest collection of Modern Art in Europe.  Enjoy it’s unusual, yet mesmerising external architecture.

    Finish your day with a stroll up the majestic Champs Elysées, leading you up to the Arc de Triomphe which lies at the end in Place Charles de Gaulle.  The Arc sits on the middle of a roundabout, the centre of twelve off-shooting avenues.

  3. Day 3

    Start your day with a visit to the Louvre, the world’s largest art museum and a historic monument.  Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock here every year to marvel at the numerous sculptures, paintings, drawing and archaeological finds.

    Explore the Île de la Cité and stop for a photo op outside Notre-Dame Cathedral.  Then head to the Palais de Tokyo, a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art.

    Discover some different styles of art at the Musée Rodin or Musée Bourdelle.

    Finish your day by going for a wander through the Latin Quarter; home to the Sorbonne University, this neighbourhood is full of student-filled cafés and is famed for its bookshops.

  4. Day 4

    Begin your final day with a guided Paris Street Art Tour to explore a different style of art.  Before you leave, take a stroll through the Jardin de Luxembourg, a large park nestled in the heart of a bustling city.

    Spend your final morning in Versailles and visit the Palais de Versailles, originally a hunting lodge and now a monumental Chateau, this is the most famous and grand palace in France.

    Travel back to the UK.
