Tenerife Astronomy

Overview

Thanks to its ideal climate, long nights, and clear skies, Tenerife is one of the best places in the world for stargazing!  The island’s unspoilt night sky is protected by law, attracting scientists from across the globe.

Teide National Park is a Starlight Reservation covering almost 200km² of the island and is dominated by Mount Teide.  With an expert guide, students can observe the night sky here using professional telescopes!  It is also home to the renowned Teide Observatory, which offers astrophysics talks and guided tours of its solar and nocturnal telescopes. 

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flight to Tenerife.

    Free time in Puerto de la Cruz, a coastal port with beautiful beaches, parks and winding roads lined with colourful buildings. 

  2. Day 2

    Visit the interactive Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos, an experimental museum devoted to science and astronomy. Here, you will be able to do an introductory astronomy workshop. 
    Tour the Teide Observatory and see its nocturnal and solar telescopes, followed by an astrophysics talk.
    Enjoy the sunset from Mount Teide and stargaze after dark with an expert guide, using long-range telescopes.

  3. Day 3

    Make the most of Tenerife’s wonderful climate at the beach. 
    Head to the National Park of Mount Teide for a half-day tour. Discover the UNESCO-listed volcanic landscapes and one of the only Starlight Reservations on this tour. 

    You can then get a cable car ride to the top of the mountain to see the surroundings from a whole new perspective! 

    Finish your evening with a whale watching boat trip! 

  4. Day 4

    Spend your last morning enjoying free time in El Médano, a beachside town with plenty of souvenir shops! 

    Flight back to the UK.

We use safe and secure accommodation especially suited to schools.  Our accommodation is usually 2* or youth hostel standard, with no bed-sharing for students.  All accommodation we use is audited,  and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts.
