Vienna and Salzburg: Music and Art

Overview

Vienna is the capital of music.  More famous composers have lived and created here than in any other city – in Vienna, music is literally in the air!

Almost every street in Vienna city centre can recount stories of famous composers - including Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, Gluck, Johann Strauss, Salieri, Schubert, Schönberg and many more. 

There is also the unrivalled Vienna Boys Choir - Sunday Mass at the medieval chapel of the Hofburg Palace is an excellent opportunity to listen to their angelic voices but tickets have to be purchased well in advance.

Also, just a few hours away from Vienna you can visit Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace and a graceful city with beautiful views. Perfect for a day trip!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight to Vienna.

    Spend the afternoon taking in Vienna’s main attractions with a guided walking tour of the city.

  2. Day 2

    Day of Music in Vienna.

    Start your day visiting Mozart-Haus: the residence where the great composer spent two and a half happy and productive years, which is now the city’s premiere Mozart attraction. It was here that he penned The Marriage of Figaro and other masterpieces.

    After an insight into the life of Mozart in Vienna, discover Haus der Musik, one of Vienna’s more unusual museums.  It explains sound in an amusing and interactive way (in English and German) for both children and adults.

    Optional evening activity: enjoy a performance at the Vienna State Opera – an unforgettable experience!

  3. Day 3

    Day trip to Salzburg.

    Mozart’s Birthplace is also a graceful city with beautiful views and a wonderful art scene.  Take a walking tour of the city, visit the Hagenauer House where Mozart was born explore the beautiful gardens of Mirabell Palace… You’ll also have the opportunity to visit some of the most memorable locations from 'The Sound of Music' with a guided tour.

  4. Day 4

    Day of Art in Vienna

    With a huge selection of museums and art galleries, you will be spoilt for choice in the city of Gustav Klimt and Hundertwasser.  See our Vienna Art itinerary for a more detailed description of the visits on offer here!

  5. Day 5

    No trip to Vienna would be complete without seeing the stunning Schönbrunn Palace, with its lovely gardens and fountains.

    Afternoon return flight home after a spot of souvenir shopping.
