Overview

Washington, the seat of power of arguably the most powerful country in the world, cannot fail to inspire students of History and Politics.  Where better to bring US History to life than the location of Lincoln’s assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial?

On display in the city’s museums are must-see exhibits from the American Revolution, from the Star Spangled Banner to the Declaration of Independence.  Meanwhile, Politics students can tread the hallowed ground of the Supreme Court, the Capitol, and the Library of Congress, to learn more about their roles!

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Morning flight to Washington DC and coach transfer to accommodation.

    Spend your first evening exploring the downtown district of Washington.

  2. Day 2

    Learn about American legislature with guided tours of the Capitol and the Library of Congress.

    Explore the National Museum of American History, with artefacts ranging from Dorothy’s ruby slippers to sheet music by local legend Duke Ellington!

    In the evening, relax and do some shopping at a local mall.

  3. Day 3

    Visit the Supreme Court, where the nine justices hear some of the 6500 cases submitted each year.

    Pop into the White House Visitor Centre, for a window into the President’s home, before a photo opportunity outside the gates.

    Enjoy a guided stroll through the National Mall to visit its iconic memorials.

    Evening in historic Georgetown, exploring the trendy shops and restaurants.

  4. Day 4

    View the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and more at the National Archives Museum.

    Coach transfer to the airport and overnight flight back to the UK.

  5. Day 5

    Arrive in the UK.

There is a good choice of accommodation in Washington suitable for school groups, we always quote on a no bed-sharing basis.  We tend to use either Hostelling International Washington DC or the Capitol Skyline Hotel.  Let us know your preference when you submit your request, and we'll help you to find the best option for your group.
