An Opal Coast Adventure

Overview

One of our most popular school trip destinations, the easy-to-reach Opal Coast is an excellent choice for primary schools, French language or History tours.  A host of different visits make this trip an enriching and rewarding experience.  Explore the charming towns of Boulogne-sur-Mer and Le Touquet, visit theme parks and aquariums, discover World War Two memorials and have the hands-on experience of being a French baker!

This is a trip packed full of really diverse activities that will enhance your students’ studies of French culture, language and history.

Our Suggested Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Coach transfer and channel crossing to France.

    Head to a traditional French Boulangerie to learn about artisan life and the art of making bread and croissants.  Of course, have a chance to try some free samples!

    Arrive at your accommodation and have a bit of leisure time, maybe for a walk to the beach.

  2. Day 2

    Visit a traditional market in Le Touquet or Étaples-sur-mer, Experience the bustling nature of market life and this is a great opportunity to practice your French!

    Then head to a chocolate factory, or perhaps if you’re feeling a bit braver, a Snail Farm!  Have a chance to see how small local farms and factories work and meet the interesting people that keep them ticking along.

    Enjoy an exciting afternoon at Bagatelle, a local theme park housed in a 26-acre park- a great way to reward hard work! 

    (Bagatelle is open from April through the summer, if visiting outside this timeframe, an alternative option will be provided). 

  3. Day 3

    Discover the story of the German occupation of France at La Coupole, a WW2 bunker complex. Inside this bunker complex, there is a 3D planetarium that offers a range of educational, immersive videos ranging from outer space to history. 

    Visit the biggest aquarium in Europe; at Nausicaá you can see an amazing variety of sea creatures including sharks and rays.  The aquarium also seeks to educate its visitors about the impact of global warming on our environment.

    Travel back to the UK.
