The Costa Brava's beautiful landscape offers so much for budding geographers: long sandy beaches, rocky headlands, narrow inlets and an array of interesting islands. Field study sites include the limestone landscapes of Montserrat and the volcanic scenery of Garrotxa Volcanic Park.

Our schools are usually based in one of the popular coastal resorts such as Tossa de Mar, Calella, Lloret de Mar and Rosas. The Costa Brava coastline, traditional settlements, National Parks and Barcelona are all within easy reach.

Our Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 - Catalonia Geography

Flight to Barcelona.

Transfer to accommodation in Costa Brava.

Free evening exploring the resort or beach.

Day 2 - Topic Area: Management Issues Day

Topic area: Management issues

Day long excursion to the Llobregat Delta. The vast expanses of flat land, so close to Barcelona, are under threat from construction and farming. The area is well-preserved, and has an amazingly diverse range of flora and fauna.

Evening tapas tour of Barcelona.

Day 3 - Craters of Long-extinct Volcanoes

Topic area: Volcanic landscapes

Day long excursion to Garrotxa National Park. Discover the craters of long-extinct volcanoes with a tour of the park, guided by a local volcanologist. Then visit the Volcanic Museum in Olot.

Day 4 - La Rambla

Topic area: Microclimates

Day-long excursion to El Monteseny National Park, a mosaic of microclimates, varying from Mediterranean to sub-alpine.

Evening in Barcelona. Stroll on La Rambla.

Day 5 - Roca Foradada

Topic area: Coastal landscapes

Glass-bottomed boat trip around the spectacular Illes Medes, including a visit to the famous Roca Foradada.

Guided walking tour along the coastal paths of the Parque Natural de Montgri.

Flight back home.

Accommodation

We use safe and secure accommodation especially suited to schools. Our accommodation is usually 2*/3* or youth hostel standard and provides a perfect base for enjoying your tour. All accommodation we use is audited, and our auditing regime is verified by independent experts. Our groups are usually based in one of the popular seaside resorts on Costa Brava such as Calella, Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar or Rosas.
