There is a wide choice of geographical excursions here; your students will be able to further their understanding of the physical environment, including rivers, lakes, and glaciated landscapes; there are also opportunities for Industrial Studies, including the impact of globalisation and tourism in Switzerland.

We can also include some more general but unmissable visits, such as the Saillon Thermal Baths or the Bex Salt Mines.

Our Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive and settle into accommodation.

Take a ride on the Berneuse Cable Car with spectacular views of the Alps.

Day 2

Discover the history of the salt mining industry with a visit to the Bex Salt Mines.

Learn about water management and river processes at either the St Léonard Underground Lake or the Lac d’Emosson Water Dam, depending on the season.

Spend the afternoon relaxed in one of the four thermal pools, sauna and steam rooms at the Saillon Thermal Baths.

Day 3

Day in Chamonix.

Admire the biggest glaciers in Europe and the highest peaks in France, Italy and Switzerland from the Aiguille du Midi!

Visit to the Mer de Glace, the second largest glacier in the Alps.

Day 4

Explore the history of the mountaintop village of Zermatt, and discover how mass tourism has affected the inhabitants.

Take the gondola to Furi, a mountain shaped by glaciers that have long since retreated.

Then, eat dinner in a rustic 17th-century chalet!

Day 5

Discover two of Switzerland’s most famous industries and delicious delicacies: cheese and chocolate! Visit the Cailler Chocolate Factory and Gruyère Cheese Factory.

Spend some time in the beautiful village of Gruyères before heading home.
